Holiday Update
2021 Thanksgiving weekend workout schedule and upcoming SNM Christmas Party
Sierra Nevada Masters Swimmers:
Thanksgiving Schedule
City of Reno pools are closed November 25 and 26, 2021, for Thanksgiving and Family Day. SNM will resume our normal Saturday swim workout on November 27 from 6:00 – 7:30 am.
Holiday Party?
Is anyone interested in hosting a revitalized Sierra Nevada Masters Swimming holiday party for 2021? Our last such holiday party was on December 6, 2019 (thank you Joe & Cindy). While it is not certain if we will have a holiday party this year due to Covid, perhaps most of that uncertainty can be decided by the host (protocols) and attendees (comfort with protocols).
Each of us are responsible for making our own decision whether or not to attend such a social gathering (if a host is willing) considering all known and unknown conditions and impacts upon your personal circumstances.
Historically SNM has celebrated the holidays with a potluck get together usually around the first Friday or Saturday in December. During this social event a wrapped/surprise gift auction to raise funds for The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is usually emceed by Coach Steve (occasionally with an appropriate head covering). In December 2020 SNM raised funds in excess of our $2,500 goal (without a party or auction). Auction buyers beware as there are a few items out there that might be considered humorous gifts of marginal value that circulate every few years.
If anyone would like to consider hosting such a SNM gathering, please let John Pettibone know.
City of Reno Aquatics Toy Drive
“City of Reno Aquatics is hosting a toy drive for low-income families of the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. If you are able, we would be grateful for any kind of donation that meets the following criteria as requested by the Boys and Girls Club:
No electronics (i.e., video games or similar) Age range 5yr-18yr
New items only
We will be accepting donations via a bin at Northwest pool until December 9, 2021. Boys and Girls Club will then distribute the donations to families in need this holiday season. Thank you for your consideration and patronage!”

Sierra Nevada Community Aquatics Update
The new Moana pool design process continues to move forward with efforts to make the primary pool 50 meters (contingent on available funding). The City of Reno is in the process of engaging a construction manager to assist with final cost estimating to take the project to the construction phase. Learn more about Sierra Nevada Community Aquatics.
Enjoy Thanksgiving and upcoming holiday activities! Thanks.
