SNM 2024 Summer Schedule
2024 Annual Coach Appreciation Week
May 5 -11, 2024, is Pacific Masters Coach Appreciation Week. While you are encouraged to regularly thank our coaches, please consider Coach Appreciation Week as an opportunity to let them know how much you value their efforts.
Here are some ideas quoted from Pacific Masters:
- A card or email telling the coach how their instruction helped you accomplish a goal
- A gift card for coffee, ice cream, a movie, or other treat
- Flowers, candy, a book, bottle of wine, or whatever you think your coach may enjoy
- A massage or spa day
- A certificate for a weekend getaway or special meal
Workout Schedule Transition to Idlewild Pool, Monday May 13, 2024
Swimming short course at Idlewild Pool (6-days/week) will start on Monday May 13, 2024. The City of Reno summer pool schedule will start on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Long course orientation for weekday morning workouts will start on Monday, June 10, 2024. Saturday morning workouts will be short course configuration.
Outdoor swimming access may be subject to weather conditions, including actual or forecast air quality conditions. There have been times in summers past when we had to return to Northwest Pool indoors due to such circumstances. The City of Reno will attempt to alert us in advance of any such circumstances.
Two (too) Early Saturday Workouts: There are two youth swim meets planned for Idlewild Pool on the following Saturdays which will result in SNM workout times of 5:30 – 7:00 am on those two Saturdays. As a reminder, normal Saturday workout time otherwise is 6:00 am – 7:30 am.

July 13, 2024 (NNA) – FYI same day as Trans Tahoe Relay
No workout is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024, due to SNM hosting the Donner Lake Swim. Volunteers needed.
When the Moana Pool opens (planned for late August), we pivot from Idlewild Pool to the new Moana Pool. Previous correspondence has referred to Make Moana Better regarding the locker rooms. We all look forward to the opening of the new Moana Pool and SNCA will follow up with any improvement activity and recommendations afterwards.
Pacific Masters Swim Meet
Short Course Yard Championships are Friday – Sunday May 17 – 19, 2024, at North Natomas Aquatic Center, Sacramento, CA. Registration closes Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 11:59 pm for swimmers entering individual events and Sunday, May 12, at 11:59 pm for relay-only swimmers. As this date and location may be convenient for our members, Coach Steve is encouraging team participation.
2024 Spring Nationals
USMS Spring Nationals are June 20-24, 2024, at the Indiana University Natatorium. Entries will close on May 28, 2024 (a “late” registration surcharge now applies). The meet will take place during the final weekend of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming, which are scheduled for June 15–23 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The Olympic Games in Paris are scheduled to start July 26, 2024.
Pacific Masters Swim Meet
Pacific Masters Long Course Championships, in Novato CA, are scheduled for August 2-4, 2024. USMS Summer Nationals, in Mission Viejo, CA, are scheduled for August 21–25, 2024.
Silver State Masters Long Course Meet
Sunday, July 7, 2024
Carson City Aquatic Center Registration opens Tuesday, May 14, 2024, and closes Friday, July 5, 2024. This is a wonderful opportunity for SNM swimmers to compete locally and obtain official long course times. SNM is again hosting this event with Carson Tigersharks Masters.
Interested in Open Water Swim Training?
Please contact Scott Evans at 775-240-4864 (call or text) if you are interested in forming an independent group to swim in open water.
Any such open water group swims, if they do not strictly adhere to USMS Guide to Running an Open Water Swim Practice will be uninsured. It is highly recommended that any participants read this USMS Guide.
Sierra Nevada Masters Swimming (SNM) is not organizing, overseeing, promoting, or sanctioning any such open water swim practices. Accordingly, participants acknowledge that they are aware SNM is not involved and further they are aware of all the risks inherent in open water swimming including possible permanent disability or death and agree to assume all those risks should they participate.
2024 Pacific Masters Eight Bridges Virtual Swim Goes Hollywood!
Saturday, June 1, 2024, to Monday, September 30, 2024: Swimmers log pool and/or open water swims to move virtually from bridge to bridge across the San Francisco Bay. As an unsanctioned event, all are invited to participate. No awards, just heaps of fun, personal satisfaction, and bragging rights. It’s also an easy opportunity to swim in support of a terrific Bay Area nonprofit.
