SNM Membership Fee Increase
Thank you to membership for your feedback on this topic. This is a follow on to our August 23, 2024 communication (posted on the SNM website). Please refer to this if you have not previously read the background rationale.
The SNM Board of Directors has heard your feedback on a proposed fee increase and debated SNM financial circumstances. Thus far, SNM has covered the 100%+ annual increase in pool use fees since July 1, 2024, out of its cash reserves. Continuing to do so is not a viable alternative. Starting with SNM membership renewals effective on or after October 1, 2024, the following membership rates will apply:
10 workout pass $165
Annual $1,395
Drop-in $20
Monthly $135
Quarterly $375
Full-time College Student – monthly $68
In most categories, this represents a 50% fee increase (Note: the last fee increase was January 1, 2020).
Fee Abatement Requests
Some of you have already reached out to Board members requesting a reduction of the fee increase due to your financial circumstances. We are in the initial stages of developing programs to consider those who cannot afford this fee increase. Please contact Jim Lawrie, SNM Treasurer, or John Pettibone, President, if you would like to discuss the possibility of a fee reduction due to your overall financial circumstances.

Dorothy Donnelly Service Award 2024 – Laura Harsh This award is presented annually to USMS registered individuals whose volunteer service has contributed to the growth, improvement, or success of U.S. Masters Swimming locally, regionally, and/or nationally. The award is named after Dorothy Donnelly, one of USMS’s first super-volunteers. Laura Harsh has (1) served on the Executive Board of Sierra Nevada Masters (SNM) for many years, and (2) has led the Donner Lake Swim sponsored by SNM for almost 20 years. As a leader for our Donner Lake Open Water Swim event, she has taken on multiple active roles – maintaining contacts between SNM and local regulatory agencies needed to obtain Use Permits, Emergency support, and catering for this annual event. Acting as a Leader in BOTH of these SNM roles, she has also kept group cohesion for the Donner Lake Swim, while working full-time in Medicine and being a mother of two – a demanding schedule! With Laura’s long-term effort, SNM has successfully hosted this Annual Event. The event eagerly anticipated by local SNM swimmers and elsewhere across the Great Basin Region as well as California / Pacific Masters Region. It is a significant contributor to SNM annual income. https://www.usms.org/fitness-and-training/articles-and-videos/articles/usms-elects-at-large-directors-and-honors-members-at-2024-annual-meeting Thank you, Laura, for your service to SNM swimmers and the USMS community! |
Save the Date – Sunday, March 2, 2025
Similar to the long course swim meet SNM has cohosted these past 3-years, SNM has reserved the new Moana Pool for a short course swim meet on Sunday, March 2, 2025. The swim meet is intended to give our membership an opportunity to get official times prior to the short course championship meets. For you long distance swimmers, we are currently considering a long-distance event with limited heat/splash count (first registrants get the lanes). Membership, please let us know your thoughts on this short course swim meet in terms of your interest, date, events, etc.
Enjoy the new Moana Aquatic Facility!
Thank you.
